Jennifer Smith, LPC, CCTP-I, MEd

Jen is a licensed professional counselor who specializes in the treatment of eating disorders, disordered eating, mood and anxiety symptoms, as well as supporting individuals coping with life’s changes and transitions. She has extensive experience working in different mental health settings, including Inpatient, Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and Outpatient levels of care. She has found her passion supporting adults as they identify their values and goals. Jen uses a blend of therapeutic modalities to tailor each session to the individual in a collaborative and compassionate setting. She includes interventions rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Jen’s therapeutic approach can be described as warm, accepting, compassionate, and genuine.

In the treatment of eating disorders and body image struggles, Jen believes in a Health at Every Size (HAES) philosophy. The size and shape of a person’s body does not indicate overall health, wellness, or value. All foods can fit and Jen supports moving away from use of judgment or labels. Jen enjoys working with a team of providers, which may include Doctors and a Registered Dietitian, to ensure the unique needs of each individual are met so healing can occur.

Jen continues to expand her knowledge and training and is currently enrolled in the three year Somatic Experiencing® trauma training, a body-oriented approach that supports the resolution of trauma and its symptoms. She utilizes skills and interventions gleaned from her training as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP-l) which offers understanding and practical application in the healing of trauma. Jen views treatment from a whole system lens, recognizing the importance of healing not just the mind, but the body as well. The integration of evidence based practices with the exploration of safety and protection can help individuals to gain resilience and navigate through life with greater insight and understanding.

In addition to Jen’s clinical experience and degree, she has also spent time working within the education system and has attained a second Master’s of Education. This offers a unique perspective and insight into the way we learn, understand, and apply new skills and information. Each individual enters the room with their own set of experiences and circumstances, and Jen is well equipped to meet her clients where they are.
